Faculty & Research

Researchers with the Center for Neurogenetics seek to understand genetic and epigenetic influences on early brain development and related disorders (such as spina bifida, brain malformation, developmental delay, autism spectrum, and epilepsy), and on adult-onset disorders (such as Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Parkinson's, ataxias, demyelinating disorders, and epilepsy).

Center researchers focus on:

  • Identifying new single-gene mutations, genetic variation patterns, and/or network interactions associated with neuropsychiatric disease
  • Investigating non-protein-coding genome regions that regulate gene expression related to neurobiology
  • Developing new approaches for identifying deleterious genome sequence and structure variants and how they impact brain formation and function across the lifespan
  • Investigating the epigenetic influences on genome function in neuropsychiatric disorders and how environment impacts the reading of the genetic code that drives the systems biology of the brain
